THE PROGRAM

Respighi Antiche danze et aria per liuto, suite no. 3,

Britten Simple Symphony

History has its chosen spirits. In the musical ones, Antonio Vivaldi is one of the brightest. He gained general popularity with the famous Four Seasons concert cycle, which entered the hall of “classical popular” a long time ago. His Concerto in F major for strings and continuo RV 136 is brief in scope, but extremely penetrating. In 1704, Vivaldi’s successful career began to develop; Czech composer František Ignác Antonín Tůma was born in the same year. After his studies in Prague, he moved to Vienna, where he and Vivaldi worked in the service of Emperor Charles VI. Tůma devoted himself mainly to sacred music; in the field of instrumental creation, sonatas and partitas dominate – Partita in D minor is the most successful of this collection. The Italian Ottorino Respighi is generally considered one of the “Impressionists”. The suites of Ancient dances and arias are proof that he mastered the principles of ancient music and was able to transform them into a new sound environment. Benjamin Britten’s charming Simple Symphony also pays homage to ancient times and customs. In this case, however, the twenty-year-old Britten also recalled his childhood compositional attempts, in new contexts he used the motifs of suites, sonatas, songs, and waltzes from his childhood years.

BAROCCO SEMRE GIOVANE (Baroque still young) is a chamber ensemble composed of top young Czech professional musicians. It was founded in 2004. Originally, it specialized in the interpretation of high-baroque compositions (hence the ensemble’s name), but today its repertoire includes compositions from all stylistic periods, including music of the 21st century. In the premiere, he also performed a number of compositions by contemporary authors. The ensemble is invited to major domestic and foreign music festivals, its concerts are broadcast by television and radio stations, it records on CD and realizes its own subscription concert series. Barocco semper giovane cooperates with leading Czech and foreign artists. He pays special attention to cooperation with young artists, laureates of important international competitions, especially the winners of the Prague Spring Competition, the Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna, the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.

The Pro musica nostra Tyrnaviensi festival is held under the auspices of the chairman of the Trnava self-governing region, Jozef Viskupič.
